Laptops for video editing and video editing software

If you’re in the business of video editing, you need the best software – but it won’t be capable of much if you don’t have a powerful computer capable of processing large and heavy files. Whether you’re a creative professional or you’re launching your own YouTube channel, getting one of the best laptops for video will be the key to making your work much easier and more successful.

Dell XPS 17

The Dell XPS 17 looks very attractive, is built incredibly well, and can be configured with some of the most powerful components on the market. For anyone who wants a fast Windows 10 laptop for video editing… and everything else.

Dell’s XPS 17 4K laptop takes the best of the XPS 15, which has been one of our favorite laptops for a couple of years, and now also adds a huge 17-inch display and raises the bar in terms of performance.

This laptop looks very similar to the XPS 15 with a solid aluminum chassis and a carbon-fiber keyboard platform that makes for long, comfortable work sessions. It also offers tons of power, with a 10th generation Intel Core i9-10885H.

This super-fast processor (45W) is the best processor for demanding tasks like video encoding and real-time editing. That chip comes in other laptops, but according to our tests, it’s among the fastest in Dell’s system.

The XPS 17 also comes available with a GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU from Nvidia that should help considerably with live editing and encoding performance. You can configure the XPS 17 with a base model on an entry-level i5-10300H processor up to the aforementioned Core i9-10885H.

In terms of RAM or system memory, it features DDR4-2933 MHz and a speedy PCI-e SSD for up to 2TB of storage, and a 4K display that offers high-contrast colors with vibrant and incredibly accurate colors.

The machine also offers great connectivity via four USB-C ports with 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 support, along with a solid keyboard and touchpad with a fingerprint scanner option for secure identification via Windows 10 Hello.

Apple MacBook Pro 13 M1

If you need a laptop that offers enough processor power for serious video editing this is the laptop for you. Apple’s new ARM-based M1 chip has proven to have great performance, outperforming Intel’s fastest 45W processors on demanding tasks like video encoding.

This makes the MacBook Pro 13 a great choice for anyone who wants a lot of power. Like most of the best MacBooks, it’s not cheap, starting at $1,300 for the 8GB RAM model and a 256GB SSD, and priced at $2,000 for the 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. But it’s worth it.

It’s a very thin machine at just 0.61 inches and weighs just three pounds, making it a great choice for your back. Thanks to the M1 chip, it lasts a long time on a charge and you won’t need to worry about not having a charger handy, beating out most Windows 10 laptops and the Intel-based Apple version.

The MacBook Pro 13 M1 inherits the excellent display from its predecessor that offers a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 485 nits of brightness, high contrast of 1470:1, and 91 percent of the AdobeRGB color spectrum. In short, this is a display that will allow you to work comfortably and deliver relatively accurate results.

Asus ZenBook 13 OLED UM325

This is one of the best Windows 10 laptop for video editing.

The ZenBook 13 OLED UM325 is a remarkably thin and light laptop for what’s inside, at just 0.55 inches thick and 2.5 pounds. That makes it very portable.

What makes it powerful is the AMD Ryzen 7 5800U chip, an eight-core processor that is significantly faster than Intel’s U-series chips and can handle processor-intensive video editing tasks.

As if that weren’t enough, this tiny laptop also has a 1080p OLED display with 100 percent AdobeRGB and sRGB, with DeltaE color accuracy of 0.49 (less than 1.0 is considered excellent). It’s not a 4K display, but it has excellent colors, and you’ll want more power for 4K editing in any case.

Everything else is great about the ZenBook 13 OLED, too, from its excellent build quality to its excellent keyboard and touchpad. If Windows 10 is your game and you need a portable video editing machine, this is the one for you. Oh, and did we mention it’s only $900? So that’s also a great value.
